Albuquerque Car Renters to Pay Triple during Christmas Season
December 15, 2015

Albuquerque visitors who need to rent a car there this Christmas season can anticipate a significantly bigger bill than usual at the check-in counter. The latest survey from CheapCarRental.net reveals that the cost of renting a car in New Mexico’s most populous city has tripled for the holidays.

In coming up with its rankings, the survey focused specifically on the car rental rates in 30 of the United States’ most popular destinations. The main Christmas season, December 23–27, 2015, served as the basis of comparison. The survey used each city’s respective airport as the pickup locale and then established the price of the cheapest available rental car there.

A daily holiday rental rate of $61 for its most affordable car may initially make Albuquerque appear affordable. But a closer comparison with the city’s typical rental rates indicates otherwise. Indeed, with a regular winter cost of under $20 per day, car rental rates in Albuquerque have increased by more than 200% during Christmas.

That $61 daily rate puts Albuquerque eighth overall among the nation’s priciest car rental destinations. Taking the number one spot on the survey, not surprisingly, is the Big Apple. Renting a car in New York City over the prime Christmas season will run visitors $102 per rental day. That’s double the price of a budget car in Albuquerque.

The following table shows the car rental rates of 30 popular U.S. destinations during the Christmas timeframe and compares them to regular prices. The rates shown reflect the average daily rate for the cheapest available car during the period spanning December 23 through December 27, 2015. Regular rates reflect the average rental car rates for the month of January.
