Alaska’s Anchorage Has Priciest Car Rental Rates in the USA

Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage, recently earned the distinction of having the highest car rental rates in the United States. The latest survey from CheapCarRental.net presented the city with this number one designation. The survey specifically looked at 50 destinations in the USA and then ranked them based on their car rental rates. The summer period spanning June to August 2012 served as the basis for comparison.

The average daily price for the cheapest available vehicle in Anchorage was $95. That figure positioned the Alaskan city just ahead of Hawaii’s Honolulu, where the average cost was $94 per day. Rounding out the top three in third place was Washington, D.C. There the average daily rate came in at $81.

Where are car rental rates most affordable? With average daily prices of $35 and $32 for the cheapest available car, Los Angeles and Las Vegas came in among the bottom of those cities ranked. Least expensive according to the survey are rental rates in Columbus, Ohio with an average of only $28 per day.

The following table shows daily car rental rates of all 50 cities considered in the survey. The prices shown coincide with the average daily rate for the cheapest available car in each city. Each respective city’s airport was chosen as the Pick Up and Drop Off location.

The car rental rates were established via CarTrawler, a car rental comparison engine. For 50 destinations in the USA, the average daily rental rate for the cheapest available car during the period spanning June to August 2012 was calculated. Each city’s main airport was chosen as the Pick Up and Drop Off location.
