Portland’s Car Rental Rates Rank Highest in the Nation
Updated: September 18, 2013

Renting a car this past summer was costliest at check-in counters in Portland, Oregon. According to a new survey from CheapCarRental.net, Portland ranked number one after the car rental rates of 50 destinations throughout the United States were compared. For comparative purposes, the survey focused on the summer months of June, July and August 2013.

To get their hands on a set of keys, car renters in Oregon’s most populous city had to pay an average daily rate of $86, and that was for the cheapest available vehicle. New York City came in only slightly lower at a per-day rate, on average, of $83. That figure positioned NYC slightly ahead of the third-place finisher, Boston. To rent the most affordable car in the Massachusetts capital, out-of-towners were assessed a daily average of $75 at the rental desk.

The following table compares the car rental rates for 50 U.S. destinations. The prices shown reflect the average daily rate for the cheapest available rental car in each destination during the period spanning June through August 2013. Each destination’s main airport was chosen as the Pick Up and Drop Off location.

About the Survey
The car rental rates mentioned were established via CarTrawler, a car rental comparison engine. For 50 destinations in the USA, the car rental rate for the cheapest available car was established for each day between June 3 and August 25, 2013, resulting in an average rate for each destination. Each city’s main airport was chosen as the Pick Up and Drop Off location. The rates were established approximately one to two weeks in advance of the Pick-Up date.
