The most expensive car rental destinations for Thanksgiving

Renting a car in New York City over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday will be substantially more expensive than usual. A recent survey conducted by CheapCarRental.net reveals that car rental rates in the Big Apple will double over Turkey Day.

In compiling the results, the survey conducted a comparison of car rental rates for 30 U.S. destinations. The dates of November 21 to 25, 2017, which covers the pre-holiday/post-holiday crunch and Thanksgiving itself, served as the focus. The survey used each respective city’s airport as the pick-up and drop-off location.

To rent the cheapest available car at NYC’s JFK Airport, a traveler will have to pay $116 per rental day over the long Thanksgiving weekend. That figure is significantly highest among all destinations. Compared to regular rates, it is the equivalent of an over 120% increase. Coming in second on the survey is Boston at an average rental rate of $74 daily. Denver rounds out the Top 3. In the Mile High City, Thanksgiving travelers can expect to pay $64 for the cheapest available rental car.

The following table compares car rental rates of 30 destinations for the long Thanksgiving weekend along with a comparison to regular prices. The rates shown reflect the average daily cost for the cheapest available car for the period covering November 21–25, 2017. Regular rates reflect the average car rental prices for November. Each respective city's main airport was chosen as the pick-up and drop-off location.
